Book Review: Everything She Didn’t Say

Everything she Didn’t Say by Jane Kirkpatrick is based on the true story of Carrie Strahorn who went along on the adventure of exploring the American West with her husband.

I found this book interesting. It was more on the memoir side and less of a story so keep that in mind as you read.

Jane gives her readers a very detailed account of life of the pioneer. As a history buff I enjoyed this. I did find myself at times wanting more story.

Overall this was an interesting read and I recommended if you are looking for a detailed account of life on the west.

I was blessed to receive a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Book Review: Thoughtful

I just finished reading Thoughtful by Dorena Williamson to my girls today. This is such a sweet book with a great message. It tells the story about a boy and his friend who has down syndrome. I love that there is high quality materials out there that we can read to our children. My girls (four and one) loved this book. My four year asked a lot of questions and I was thankful for the discussion it provided. I recommend this book if you want to start conversations with your children about differences.

I also recently heard Dorena on the God Centered Mom Podcast and she shared some helpful thoughts in teaching our children about how God made people to be different and valuable.

Book Review: Legacy of Mercy by Lynn Austin

I just finished reading Legacy of Mercy by Lynn Austin. I really loved this book and had a heard time putting it down. This is the second book in the waves of mercy series. I didn’t realize that but the book also can stand alone as I did not read the first one.  This book told one story from different perspectives and I enjoyed that. The story line was fascinating to me and I found myself thinking about the book long after I put it down. I would recommend reading the books in order as I am sure it gives more depth to the story. Legacy of Mercy releases in October so that gives you some time to read Waves of Mercy.

Book Review: The Leader’s Wife: Living with Eternal Intentionality

I just finished The Leader’s Wife: Living with Eternal Intentionality by Debby Thompson. My husband is a pastor so when I saw I could review this book, I thought it would be a good fit. Debby shares her own story of being a leaders wife as well as sharing other stories of leaders wives. I really enjoyed the stories of the women who have gone before us. They were very inspiring and interesting. Some of them I had heard of but did not know a ton about. I thought this book had some helpful information in it and I found it to be a quick read.

I was blessed to receive a copy via the publisher but all opinions are my own.

Book Review: Freedom’s Light by Colleen Coble

I really loved this Freedom’s Light by Colleen Coble. Set during the American Revolution it drew me in right from the beginning. The story was complex and engaging. The characters were realistic and compelling. I didn’t want to put this one down and was sad when it was finished. I recommend this book if you enjoy historical Christian fiction.

Book Review: How Joyful People Think: 8 Ways of Thinking That Lead to a Better Life

I also just finished How Joyful People Think: 8 Ways of Thinking That Lead to a Better Life By Jamie Rasmussen. I enjoyed this book and thought he had a lot of wisdom. I can sometimes lean towards thinking the negative in a situation and Jamie walks through eight ways that can help you have more joyful thinking. He unpacks the verse Philippians 4:8 in order to do this. I thought there was good overall vision throughout the book but also really good practical ideas. This is one I may go back and refer to from time to time.

I just finished My Heart Belongs in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania By Murray Pura. This book held my attention from the beginning to the end. I was fascinated with the events in Gettysburg during the Civil War. The characters were equally fascinating and I caught myself thinking about this book long after I put it down. If you are looking for a good historical fiction book, I highly recommend this one.
