Book Review: Saints and Scoundrels in the Story of Jesus

I love everything Nancy Guthrie writes and am always excited when she has a new book out. When I read the description of her newest book, Saints and Scoundrels in the Story of Jesus, I knew this would not be an exception. This book is for anyone that wants to dive deeper into the stories of people in the story of Jesus. Nancy tells these stories in a biblical accurate way and also in a way that helps you see Jesus’s heart towards them. I was moved by the stories and more grateful for the Gospel that transforms us all.

Book Review: Big and Little Activity Devotional by Rachel Swanson

Big and Little Activity Devotional is such a fun idea! I love inviting my three girls into my Bible time and this is such a creative way to do it. Each page has one for you and one for your kiddo. You can sit across the table and do the activities on your own but together. This would be a fun way to connect with your children over scripture. I would have never thought of this but excited to mix things up.

Book Review: Unyielding Hope (When Hope Calls)

I love Janette Oke and was excited to see she has a new book out, Unyielding Hope (When Hope Calls) written with her daughter. Her When Calls the Heart books are a favorite of mine. I also love the TV series based off the books on the Hallmark channel. Unyielding Hope is also a series on the Hallmark channel, When Hope Calls. If you love historical Christian fiction, than this book will be a great read for you. The story of the sisters is very heartwarming and a great read for a time like this. I’m excited to read more in the series.

Book Review: Together Through the Storms: Biblical Encouragements for Your Marriage When Life Hurts

Together Through the Storms: Biblical Encouragements for Your Marriage When Life Hurts by Jeff and Sarah Walton was such an encouragement just as the title says. This book is for those that have hurts in their marriage but also for those that have a great marriage. We could all benefit from their story and the Gospel hope they point us to. They walk us through the biblical story of Job which might seem like an odd choice but it really is so relatable. Marriages will have struggles. We are told we will have suffering in this life, but take heart He has overcome the world. They help us to see that God is with us in the suffering. It helped to shift my perspective.  I was blessed by this book and recommend it.

Book Review: Enough about Me: Find Lasting Joy in the Age of Self

Enough about Me: Find Lasting Joy in the Age of Self by Jen Oshman is a must read for this time. Jen speaks about the issue of “Me”. Right now the main message we hear from all over is that this life is all about me and what we need to do to be happy. Jen shows us where real joy is and how that is found only in Christ. This book points us back to the Gospel. This is a message that is much needed. We need our perspective shifted rightly back to the King of Kings and away from ourselves. I encourage you to read this book and it will challenge you in the best way.

I was blessed to receive an e copy of this book from Crossway. All opinions are my own.

Bible Study Review: Jude, Keeping the Faith

Keeping The Faith, A Study in Jude

I was excited to see Bible Study on the book of Jude and to look through it. It is a six week study that could be completed on your own or with a group. It is a mix of commentary and questions for you to dig deeper in. I think this is a great study for someone who wants some more explanation of the text but also wants to work towards answering the questions yourself. It is a good mix. While I do enjoy studies that have video teaching, I they can sometimes be expensive to do on your own. I also feel like I am missing out if I don’t do the videos. Since this study doesn’t have a video component, it is an assessable option for study.
