I have an avid reader at home and finding books for her has become a challenge. The Tree Street Kids are interesting and quality. My daughter can get wrapped up in the adventures of the Tree Street Kids and also learn about her faith. I am thankful to Amanda Cleary Eastep for writing such wonderful books. If you are looking for a new book for your children who are between 8 and 12, I recommend looking at the Tree Street Kids.

In book three, Jack has to navigate starting a new school and new friends. So many kids can relate to how he feels. I love how the book tackles hard topics but in a fun way. I can’t recommend them enough.

Book Review: When Strivings Cease

Ruth Chou Simons newest book, When Strivings Cease: Replacing the Gospel of Self-Improvement with the Gospel of Life-Transforming Grace is such a much needed message for today. In this book, Ruth shows us why striving on our own is not the answer. Only the true Gospel is the answer. For me, I tend to try and control everything and when that doesn’t work, I feel like I have failed. Ruth shows us how there is freedom because of Jesus. This is a message I need to hear daily. The Visual Word: Illustrated Outlines of The New Testament Books is a tremendous resource for the church. The book outlines each book of the Bible with a beautiful illustration. This book is valuable to have at home and for churches to share with their members. I just studied the book of Acts with my church and I loved being able to reference this book. It helped me to remember the basic outline of the chapter. I hope he writes one for the Old Testament!

Book Review: Take Back Your Family

I really enjoyed reading Take Back Your Family by Jefferson Bethke. As I parent of young children, I would love to have the family they described. I was fascinated by how the modern nuclear family came to be and the drawbacks of that. I love that Jefferson is calling us back to a larger vision of family. I would loved a little more practical tips but I loved how he casted the vision. I recommend this to all families. It will give you some great things to think about.

Book Review: Deeper: Real Change for Real Sinners

Deeper: Real Change for Real Sinners is a must read. This book on sanctification (the process of becoming more like Christ). He explains we do this by deepening. This is different than behavior modification and just trying more. It is about the grace we are offered in Christ. It is about what He has done for us and what we already have. We often think we have this magical lists that we check off so we can grow like a proper Christian should. Dane challenges this and shows us the truth. We have all we need to go deeper. Dane has a way of writing that speaks to the soul. This book is one I would like I will be mediating on for awhile. I recommend this book to all.
